Next-Gen Maruti Alto To Launch With a 660cc Engine; Expect 30 KMPL of Max. Mileage!

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the largest selling carmaker in India, isn’t the one to rest on its laurels. We have seen the company coming up with a handful of new models in recent past. Its latest-gen Dzire has gone on to become the largest-selling car in the country. Even the Baleno and the Ciaz have garnered a very favorable response from the car buying lot. But the company’s new car onslaught is far from over. The company will launch the new-generation Swift early next year. Also, the manufacturer will come up with a new version of its entry-level hatchback, the Alto. The new Maruti Alto 2018 will have a crossover-like design. Also, there are good chances that the hatchback will come with a 660cc petrol engine. Launch date is likely to fall towards the end of next year.

It may be noted here that the Suzuki Alto sold in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) uses a 660cc petrol engine that offers a good mix of mileage and power. This three-cylinder, 658cc, R06A petrol engine outputs a maximum power of 51 PS along with a peak torque of 63 Nm. The engine offers a really high mileage of 37 kmpl in the JC08 test cycle. While it might sound like a downgrade from the current 796cc unit, let’s not forget that the 2018 Alto will be considerably lighter. Also, the 796cc F8 engine has got a bit too long in the tooth now and a modern replacement is definitely the way forward.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is yet to let out an official word on the launch date of the new Maruti Alto 2018. However, there are good chances that the Alto 660cc will go on sale towards the end of next year, probably around the next year’s festive season. In spite of enjoying a 45% market share in India’s passenger car market, MSIL has been gradually losing out to various new entrants such as Datsun and Renault. Both the Redi Go and the Kwid offer 0.8-litre and 1.0-litre variants that directly target the Alto twins. While Maruti has so far launched pricier cars in the form of the new S-Cross and the Ignis, it will finally shift its focus on the entry-level segments to further consolidate its position. The new 2018 Maruti Alto 660cc is a major part of this plan.

New Maruti Alto 2018 Launch Date

Maruti hasn’t been too vocal about its launch plans of the new Alto 2018. However, speculations are rife that the new 660cc Maruti Alto will go on sale towards the end of this year. We have already seen spy images of the JDM-spec Alto testing on Indian roads. A festive season launch of the new-generation model can’t really be ruled out.

Maximum Price Rs 4.2 Lakh

The 2018 Alto will be an all-new model, inside and out. It will have a more modern engine, a new lightweight platform, modern exterior, and a more attractive interior. New Maruti Alto 2018 Specification

Engine 660cc, three-cylinder
Max. Power 51 PS
Peak Torque 63 Nm
Transmission 5-speed Manual, 5-speed AMT

Suzuki has been using this small-capacity three-cylinder engine since a lot of time now. We have seen this engine in JDM-spec Alto and even the sporty Cappuccino, with the latter getting a high strung version with over 64 PS of maximum power. A displacement of 658cc, which is just under the 660cc limit, has given these JDM cars the Kei-car advantage. The India-spec Alto 2018 will probably get the 51 PS version. A low displacement along with modern internals and really low kerb weight make this car really frugal. The new lightweight platform should ensure weight savings of up to 60 KGs.

New Maruti Alto 2018 Mileage

It gets really important for entry-level cars to offer a really high mileage. The JDM-spec Alto delivers 37 kmpl in JC08 test cycle. Even in India, the 2018 Alto 660cc will offer a really high mileage. Expect the new Maruti Alto 2018 to deliver a mileage of around 30 kmpl in real-world conditions. The high mileage will be owing to a lightweight platform and a smaller engine. There are really very good chances that the new model Alto will become the best mileage car of India.

New Maruti Alto 2018 Exterior Design

The new 2018 Alto 660cc model won’t look anything like the car on sale today. It will feature an all-new exterior design that will make the car look much more attractive. Maruti has been caught testing the JDM-spec Alto in India. Chances are that the upcoming new India-spec model would borrow plenty of design cues from the Japanese sibling. This means that the new car will have a retro design reminiscent of the original Suzuki Alto. That said, the car will be attractive enough to qualify as a modern design, but with a lot of old-school feel to it. It is also being said that the car would have a crossover-like stance. This will help the new Alto to target the rugged-looking Renault Kwid.

New Maruti Alto 2018 Interior

Even the interior will be completely new. The dashboard will go on to have a minimalist look and will feel more modern. The quality of materials will be better and even the features list will be higher. The new car will offer more space and a slightly larger boot. Also, expect the car to offer foldable rear seats to maximize the luggage-carrying capability. Thanks to the new norms, all the variants will have a standard driver’s side airbag. ABS will be available as an option. Safely expect the new Maruti Alto 2018 660cc model to offer features like all four power windows, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, Bluetooth, and AUX connectivity, remote locking, rear parking sensors, etc.
